Authentic algae eaters

Let's make a small information card for shrimp algae eater, Caridina multidentata, formerly known as Caridina japonica. Especially known for their skills acuariofila barber for filamentous algae can develop in our aquarium.

This small invertebrate "fresh water", quotation marks, is originally from the region of Yamato in Japan, living on the end of the course of some rivers with closeness to the sea, so it is a shrimp in brackish or salt water, although keep in fresh water, we could really keep radioactive water if we wanted to, because it would hold a perfect shrimp any aquatic condition.

As we see in some pictures, we have to improve is a shrimp with a typical transparent coloration with black dots on the sides. Sometimes we can see specimens with more intense browns and some less. Its size can be from 4 to 8 cm sometimes see specimens with a size that seems to have gigantism, grow a lot.

On the parameters of the water we can offer, as indicated the cant tolerate everything, temperatures between 5 º C and 35 º C, and a pH range of hardness and also ends, you can put in your aquarium without thinking of this. The only downside is the metal, so forget heavy metal rock, because it is their kryptonite.

It is also known as Amano Shrimp, because the name Takashi Amano used them in their aquariums landscape features.

Their food is of the most varied, much like plant algae, filamentous green algae, but also will feed on any food that falls into the aquarium to supplement their diet. But again, Beard algae will no longer be a problem.

Reproduction of japonica shrimp is not simple, although often for forums you could read that some people have managed to reproduce totally into fresh water, it can happen one in a thousand, and in most cases will be a human error. Recently, I met a guy who had sold "Japonica", but really he had placed river shrimps.

The difference between reproduction of japonica shrimp and cherry shrimp basically consists of the shrimp zoeae multidentata not born directly as a shrimp, as happens with the cherry, which is a copy of their mamma in miniature. The shrimp japonica at birth goes through different larval stages until it becomes a shrimp and here the problem of feasibility.

There is a method to the japonica shrimp reproduction, known as brothers Longemann method, explain the steps to reproduce with all levels of detail.

Here you have the original website, enjoy it.
