Nature can have a big impact on a the health of people. Most of us know that nature can improve our mood and sense of well-being. However, the entire range of health benefits associated with nature can extend beyond this.

A report by the Institute for European Environmental Policy called Nature for Health and Equity outlined several of the health benefits associated with better access to nature.

The health benefits of improved access to nature include:

  • increase in happiness, well-being, and quality of life
  • decrease in use of antidepressants
  • fewer allergies and behavioural problems in children
  • more physical activity
  • a decreased risk of death for older people

In most places access to nature outdoors is limited right now for health concerns related to coronavirus.

Let’s not forget all the ways that nature can impact on health once we are all able to return to more outdoor activities in the future.

We will have a post in the coming weeks about how to get the most out of connecting with nature while indoors. Please feel free to leave any comments on this post or any other posts on Nature Brain.
